EQUIPMENT RENTAL
The decision to rent equipment at your destination, rent equipment
from your local dive store, or purchase equipment at your destination
or before your trip can be very difficult. The information included
here may help you make your decisions more easily. Following is a brief
description and rental price on the equipment available at the Akumal
Dive Shop. It is very rare that basic scuba equipment to include regulator,
BCD, mask and fins is not available for your needs. Items size dependent,
such as wet suits can be in short supply. We continue to replace equipment
on a regular basis, thereby providing you with new modern equipment.
If you have special needs please contact us in advance. We will do our
best to assist you in all your equipment needs. All quoted prices are
per day in US dollars and do not include the 10% sales tax. If you do
multiple dives in one day there is no additional charge.
Regulator:
$ 12.00/day
The Sherwood (Brut model) regulator is our standard regulator
for rental. This regulator includes depth gauge and alternate air source.
The Akumal Dive Shop is proud of our maintenance record and success
we have experienced with this regulator. It has proven to be a very
solid safe regulator used within recreational dive limits. We know of
no other that provides the same dependability.
Buoyancy Compensating Device (BCD):
$ 12.00/day
The Sherwood (Silhouette model) is our standard rental BCD.
This basic jacket-style design works well within our diving conditions.
Regulator & BCD Combinations:
One Day Rental
$18.00
One Week Rental
$70.00
Underwater Lights:
$ 12.00/day
Our 2 C-size or 4 C-size battery powered lights work well
for our night dives, cenote dives, or a night snorkeling adventure.
If you require a primary light for cave diving we recommend you bring
your light with you.
Shorty Wet Suits:
$12.00/day
The 3 mm shorty wet suits we have for rental are normally
adequate for our ocean environment. The ocean water temperature ranges
from 78º F. during winter to 84º F. during summer months.
The water temperature in the Cenotes is near 76º F year-round.
Most persons will become slightly chilled at the end of a cenote dive
if only using a shorty wet suit. Therefore, we recommend bringing your
own wet suit if you are planning to dive various cenotes. Most persons
are very comfortable in a full wet suit without a hood.
Mask:
$ 7.00/day
Our silicone masks are medium priced, good quality, and very
suitable to scuba diving or snorkeling. A basic inexpensive snorkel
is included with the mask rental price. If you are planning to do a
lot of snorkeling you may wish to purchase another type which is easier
to clear. Other types of snorkels and mask are available for purchase
in the Akumal Dive Shop retail section.
Fins:
$ 5.00/day
The full foot design rubber fins available for rental at the
Akumal Dive Shop are very adequate for snorkeling. The more demanding
scuba diver may require a larger more powerful fin. At all times of
the year we have sufficient supply of fins in adult sizes from 3 - 12.
Children's sizes can often be in short supply. Therefore, we recommend
you bring small children's size fins with you.
Snorkeling Equipment Packages: (includes
mask, fins, and snorkel)
One Day
$ 12.00 One Week
$60.00
Underwater Cameras:
Disposable cameras are available for purchase in our retail
section.
